Here and now.

"ahh. great idea. fine video. multitasking...:-)
the intersting thing would be to leave the first part out. thus the video would both be a piece of conceptual art, sort of "ready-made" in the Duchamp sence, and at the same time authentic documentary... the irony about it would be, that one might believe the combination of speach and pictures to be "fake"... yet it would be pure reality...
maybe one possible solution could be, to add a geo-tag in the openings, and then just let the footage roll..."

Stockholm Marathon 2006

The last film from 2006-06-03

This film is a short home video from the trip to the manifestation for The Pirate Bay and others in Stockholm 2006-06-03.

The thumbnail from the video depicts a short moment of altered perception of the camera eye. (See spacetwo : patalab for an interesting discussion, especially in the comments).

Added: Here are some focused studies from Stockholm Marathon footage. Focused study #1 and focused study #2. Actually the second film looses its focused aim and becomes curious about the surroundings.

Hong Kong x 3

Better than Hong Kong x 2

Yet another Hong Kong Movie, which is arguably better than Hong Kong x 2.

In this version some footage from hombrelobotv is used. Hombrelobotv has the by-nc-sa license from Creative Commons and I can use the footage as I use the same license in Hong Kong x 3.

Video 52

Hong Kong x2
The fourth and last entry from the videoblogger meet-up.

A parallell visit to the bar Hongkong in Copenhagen.

I was later told that one should visit Hong Kong late at night/ early in the morning, when all the other bars have closed – not in the middle of the day on a Sunday.

Parts of the footage is from Tikitag's blog.

Translation of the conversation (loop) at the end of the video:
A: (in Danish) Would you like me to take a photo?
B: (in Swedish): No, I'm only filming.
A: (in Danish): Well, just ask and I will take a picture of you.

I have tested parallel storytelling before.

Pelikan talk

Another video from the videoblogger meet-up

It was a great meet-up in Copenhagen, with many interesting discussions about videoblogging and media at large.

The second part of the meet-up was held in Café Pelikan.

Kristoffer Gansing described convincingly how the documenting style with hand-held cameras and unedited footage has gained a reputation of being more authentic than slick and edited productions. When slick people as politicians start to videoblog in the documentary style, it is quite possible that the reputation of authenticity of rough and unedited footage will become weakened.

The videopost was an attempt to elaborate Kristoffer's idea, but my arguments did soon take a different direction and turned into a discussion about how videoblogs of the "point-of-view" style decieve us to equate the footage with the perception of the videoblogger.

I tried to make a point in the film by directing my physical attention in a different direction compared to the camera. The camera moved around randomly.

A comment to Patalab.

This post was made as a response to the text of a videopost by patalab on blip.tv. I began to edit the responding film and checked back to patalab's post. Now it was edited and the part which I intended to comment was cut out!
I thereby produced a response to a statement not existing anymore and the video obtained a crippled character as a semi-response.

I asked Sam Renseiw about the text on his major videoblog, where the video was posted as well (with the "altered" text).

Here follows the conversation on Spacetwo: Patalab:

kristian nilsson said...

The video post had a different text on blip.tv and I began to edit a response to the discussion in the text about the role of a video.

Now, the "response" seems a bit off-topic if it responds to the current text!

Will you re-publish the "original" text on your vlog?

Maybe I'm only getting confused in the revolving world of texts and videos and have lost your text somewhere – if it was your text from the beginning or if it was only some kind of coinsidence.

Hello Kristian,
Here is the original text, first posted at blip.tv, as appendix to the uploaded video:

"Every video, it is said, should inculcate a media message and by this moral is the media merit of the work to be adjudged. We have taken it into our heads that to film a video simply for the video's sake, and to acknowledge such to have been our design, would be to confess ourselves radically wanting in the true poetic dignity and force:--but the simple fact is that would we but permit ourselves to look into our own souls we should immediately there discover that under the sun there neither exists nor can exist any work more thoroughly dignified, more supremely noble, than this very video, this video per se, this video which is a video and nothing more, this video written solely for the video's sake"

The text is an an altered quote from Edgar Allan Poe's essay from 1850 "The Poetic Principle"; link >
http://www.globusz.com/ebooks/Poe5/00000021.htm
Intended, at first to start a fruitful discussion about vlogging... But I then decided to leave the videos speak for themselves... together with the "absurd" linkings...

The original text was only posted for a short time. Funny that is has been noticed at all. Thanks for the reply. Would appreciate eventual comments.
best regards
sam

How to make your own google-map to include video clips.

In this screencast, I show how to upload a film to Blip TV and then use it on a google map provided by Communitywalk.com.

My CommunityWalk-map is called Turning Torso Films.

I used Snapz Pro for the screencast and recorded the voice over with my digital camera.

Radio interview

To be or not to be in the same room.

Actually, most of the guests probably listened to the interview, but not as an audience; we listened as we listen to the radio. It didn't matter that the conversation was held in the same room.

After the interview, a very happy man in a wheel chair shook Ulf Elfving's hand. The rest of the "audience" continued with our own business. Johan Ulveson rushed away to his theatre and everything returned to normal.

The interview is available on the net. (The link to the file is in the centre column)

The fifth (and last) film in the series: Tracking "Chasing Windmills".

"Emergency" is the last film in the series Tracking "Chasing Windmills".

NB: QuickTime 7 is required to watch the film.

For additional information about Chasing Windmills, Cristina Cordova and Juan Antonio del Rosario, please visit the behind-the-scenes blog Jadelr's notebook.

Video 37

The fourth film in the series: Tracking "Chasing Windmills".

"Milk and meat" is a film which is meaningless without knowledge of the storyline in Chasing Windmills. Even with such knowledge, the film does not contribute anything to a conscious understanding of Chasing Windmills.

"Milk and meat" is made in the style of iconography.

Video 36

The third film in the series: Tracking "Chasing Windmills".

The third comment originates from the question of travelling to friends and relatives. The film departs, however, fundamentally from the actual plot in Chasing Windmills.

"The trip" is an attempt to create a film, which originates from a specific plot, but which works as a standalone film as well; i.e. the film can be watched and valued independently from its origin.

The style of the third film is supposed to be humoristic.

The merry tune in the film is known as "Adventure" - a default melody on the Sony Ericsson K 750i mobile phone.

Video 35

The second film in the series: Tracking "Chasing Windmills"

The most important place in Chasing Windmills is the home of the protagonists.

The seven five films in the Tracking Chasing Windmills series were recorded during a weekend. All films take place within a "home".

The style of the second film is location description. The first film was located in the living room; the second film is located in the bathroom.

The waterfall is made as a video installation from the 1990s, with its fondness of the written word and of "messages".

Video 34

The first film in the series: Tracking "Chasing Windmills"

This series is an attempt to "comment" the videoblog Chasing Windmills.

In the video comments I will try to discuss the work of Cristina Cordova and Juan Antonio del Rosario from different points of view. Since bitlab malmö is a videoblog and not a review site, the films will be rather loosely related to the content in "Chasing Windmills".

The first film in the series is called "the child" and it is in the style of opinion. The film presents a position concerning the relative importance of the characters in Chasing Windmills, although it is easy to argue against this opinion.

Driving south

A film about making some stops during a road trip.

Story: Here I made a film with a classic Super-8 tourist narrative. Famous places and funny activities are put together with the only context of being linked by a common road trip.

The most interesting part of the trip was not documented. I picked up some hitch hikers who belonged to the Dutch squatter movement. They were on a European tour visiting squatters around Europe. We had a great discussion for a couple of hours and I drove them to the ferry in Helsingborg. They intended to go to a party in Copenhagen.

Listening to Sofia Karlsson

This is a film made according to the vlogme05-manifesto.

Story: This is a film made according to the vlogme05-manifesto.

The film is about me listening to the great record "Svarta Ballader" with the artist Sofia Karlsson. Sofia interprets well known songs by the poet Dan Andersson.

As a vlogme05-project, the film is made in one shot, no effects, the music is live (the CD is playing on the computer, we hear the end of song #1 and the beginning of song #2). The film was originally in 3gp-format, but was exported as a streaming mpeg4-video.

The "application effects" in the film are made in real time. Unfortunately, the typo is also made in real time.

Mazes: #2 Julita

The glass is now empty: Let's enter the maze!

Story: This is the second film in the series about mazes. This film was recorded at the Julita Manor in the western part of the landscape Södermanland.

While the question of rules and breaking rules was quite straight forward in the first film, it becomes more complicated in this film. This is due to the world is being distorted, with no obvious exit from the maze. The question this time is how one can leave a maze which does not follow the rules.

Citizen journalist, citizen scavenger

En film om mobiltelefonsanvändande - A film about the use of camera phones

Story: This film was made after some hours of reading about the horrible terrorist attack on London and about an assassination of a man in Malmoe.

There have been many discussions about the pictures and films taken by citizens who were on location of the terrorist attack in London and about how the photos became public through flickr and other services. This can be seen as citizen journalism.

K 750: Cafe

Tredje testfilmen med K750: The third test film with K750

Note: This film does not stream.

Story: The third test film was made with VideoDj – an application bundled with the SonyEricsson K750. It is possible to edit films with five components (video clips, photos or texts) with the application. The K750 has a feature of pausing films, so it is possible to create VideoDJ films which include more "shots", i.e. clips with one or more "pauses". The music is a default theme, which can be added to the the film.

The test film consists of two clips. They use different settings for the lighting. The first setting is "Lightbulb" and the second is "Cloudy". The second clip includes a "paus" and consists thus of two shots.

The film is shot in 176x144 and in 3gp-format. I have kept these default settings and posted the film ready-made from the mobile phone. Usually we double the mobile films to 352x288, which only marginally increases the size of the file, but the films get the great blurred pixel character.
